Local ‘Idol’ Sill Hanging In

Phil Stacey, Tennessee Native

Like a lot of you, we’ve gotten into a habit of watching American Idol each week to see how everyone sounds, looks and performs, wondering who’ll be the next to go.  In Knoxville, we’ve had several ‘locals’ to keep up with on reality television most notably Tina Wesson, the winner of Survivor Outback.

I didn’t realize there was a Tennessean on American Idol this season until yesterday.  Phil Stacy, who’s bio says his hometown is Jacksonville, FL - which is where he lives currently, is actually from Smyrna, TN.  Stacey’s parents still reside in Smyrna where his Dad is a preacher and his Mom is a nurse at the local hospital.

According to [his mom], lots of places claim Phil, 29, as their own. He has lived in Smyrna, as well as Ohio, Kansas, Oklahoma and now Florida, where he is stationed in Jacksonville with the U.S. Navy.

Turns out he’s really just a small town Tennessee boy.  If you like to route for a local, Stacey’s your guy this season - and he can really use your help now.  The only candidate to get less votes than him, Haley Scarnato, was dismissed from the show last night.
